This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life threatening emergencies using basic life support measures only.
Pre-/Co-requisites
There are NO pre-requisites or co-requisites for this competency unit. This unit stands alone and incorporates the content of unit HLTCPR201A Perform CPR.
Students must be 14 years or older. Students under 14 years must provide written permission to attend the course from their parent or guardian.
Duration
4 Hours
Award
On successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a statement of attainment, which is valid for 3 years. As per the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines the HLTCPR201A Perform CPR unit needs to be completed every 12 months.
Assessment
First Aid International offers a hands on approach with progressive assessment throughout the course including multiple choice questionaires. This is competency based training so we will make sure that you have a total understanding before you go home.
Course Information
- Basic anatomy and physiology relating to:
- severe bleeding
- absence of signs of life:
- unconsciousness
- unresponsive
- not moving
- not breathing normally
- choking/airway obstruction
- shock
- First aid procedures for:
- bleeding control
- care of unconsciousness
- infection control as it relates to standard precautions
- airway management
- chest pain
- casualty with no signs of life
- shock
- respiratory distress, including asthma
- severe allergic reaction
- Chain of survival
- How to access emergency response support services/personnel
- Understanding of the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), including when to use and when not to
- State/territory regulations, legislation and policies, ARC Guidelines and accepted industry practice relating to currency of skill and knowlegde
- Privacy and confidentiality requirements
- Duty of care requirements
- Need to be culturally aware, sensitive and respectful
- Relevant workplace hazards
- Own skills and limitations
- Awareness of stress management techniques and available support
